Our Liverpool vs Man City prediction is Man City or draw (double chance X2) at 1.49. The two meet at Anfield on Sunday 11 October 2026, kick-off 16:30 WAT, in the biggest game of Premier League Matchweek 6. Every price below is ChampBet odds on 7 October 2026, and they will move as team news lands.
This is the first league game for both clubs after a three-week international break, and both come back with injury worries. Predictions are our opinion and football is unpredictable, so treat every pick here as a view, not a promise.
Liverpool vs Man City team news
Both managers will confirm their squads at the pre-match press conferences later this week, so check again before kick-off. On Wednesday, Liverpool’s worries are in attack and City’s main question is Erling Haaland. Here is what was reported going into the week.
Liverpool
- Alexander Isak came home early from Sweden with a thigh problem. Sweden boss Graham Potter called it small, and the Liverpool Echo’s injury round-up expects him to be in contention.
- Cody Gakpo hurt his ankle playing for the Netherlands. A Dutch journalist reported he could miss several weeks, so treat him as a doubt until Andoni Iraola speaks.
- Jeremy Jacquet missed France’s win over Belgium with a left hamstring strain, though France coach Zinedine Zidane said he was only slightly injured.
- Federico Chiesa (back) is pushing to return after missing the start of the season.
- Out: Hugo Ekitike (Achilles, targeting Boxing Day), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni, who is only now returning to training after a knee injury.
Man City
- Phil Foden is suspended after his red card in the Manchester derby, as Sky Sports’ match guide confirms.
- Erling Haaland came off in the 67th minute of Norway’s 2-1 defeat in Portugal on Sunday after signalling to the bench. Early reports point to fatigue rather than a serious injury, but City are assessing him.
- Antoine Semenyo and Nico O’Reilly also left international duty early with injury concerns.
Form: City perfect, Liverpool unbeaten but drawing
Man City are top with 15 points from five games, the only 100% record left in the top four tiers of English football. Enzo Maresca’s side have scored 13 and conceded 5, and they have already won away at Crystal Palace (4-1) and Manchester United (1-0). Opta data on the Premier League’s site shows City create the best-quality chances in the league, at 0.15 expected goals per non-penalty shot, and convert 19.1% of them. One caution: only four of the 14 earlier sides to win their first five games went on to win the title.
Liverpool are sixth with nine points from two wins and three draws in Andoni Iraola’s first season after replacing Arne Slot. Both wins came away, 2-0 at Ipswich and 1-0 at Bournemouth. At Anfield they have drawn 0-0 with Fulham and 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, and the club’s own stats preview notes they have drawn each of their last four Premier League home games. Avoid defeat on Sunday and Iraola joins Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan as the only permanent Liverpool bosses unbeaten in their first six top-flight games.
There is an off-pitch story too. This is City’s first match since an independent commission found them guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules between 2009/10 and 2017/18. City deny the charges and have lodged an appeal. Expect a loud Anfield.
Both clubs are in Champions League action on Wednesday 14 October: Liverpool away to LASK Linz and City at home to Paris Saint-Germain.
Players to watch
Liverpool
- Alexander Isak: four league goals, second only to Haaland, including the winner at Bournemouth before the break. His fitness is the biggest single question for Liverpool.
- Dominik Szoboszlai: three goal involvements in his last three Premier League games against City.
- Bradley Barcola: his only previous game against City was for Paris Saint-Germain in January 2025, when he scored and assisted in a 4-2 Champions League win.
- Rio Ngumoha, the Nigerian angle: the 18-year-old left winger is of Nigerian and Guadeloupean descent and now plays for England. If Gakpo misses out, he is one of Iraola’s options on the left.
Man City
- Erling Haaland: the league’s top scorer with five goals and the highest expected goals total (4.4). Fit, he is the main threat. Missing, City lose their focal point.
- Rayan Cherki: three league goals already, and ChampBet’s Most Assists market had him at 4.00 on 7 October, second favourite behind Bruno Fernandes.
- Josko Gvardiol: scored the stoppage-time winner against Bournemouth, and City complete 83% of their passes under high-intensity pressure, the best rate in the league. That matters against a Liverpool side that presses more than anyone.
Liverpool vs Man City head-to-head
City have won the last three meetings in all competitions, scoring nine goals and conceding one. Here are the last five:
| Date | Competition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 4 Apr 2026 | FA Cup | Man City 4-0 Liverpool |
| 8 Feb 2026 | Premier League | Liverpool 1-2 Man City |
| 9 Nov 2025 | Premier League | Man City 3-0 Liverpool |
| 23 Feb 2025 | Premier League | Man City 0-2 Liverpool |
| 1 Dec 2024 | Premier League | Liverpool 2-0 Man City |
The away side has won two of the last three league meetings, as many as in the previous 32. Sunday is also the first league meeting since March 2015 with neither Jurgen Klopp nor Pep Guardiola in a dugout.
Liverpool vs Man City odds explained
To turn odds into a percentage, divide 1 by the price. Our guide to how betting odds work covers this in more detail.

| Market | ChampBet odds (7 Oct 2026) | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|
| Liverpool win | 2.58 | 38.8% |
| Draw | 3.70 | 27.0% |
| Man City win | 2.54 | 39.4% |
| Man City or draw (X2) | 1.49 | 67.1% |
| Liverpool or draw (1X) | 1.51 | 66.2% |
| Both teams to score: Yes | 1.45 | 69.0% |
| Over 2.5 goals | 1.55 | 64.5% |
The three results add up to 105.2%, and the extra 5.2% is the bookmaker’s margin. The market can barely separate the sides: City are a fraction shorter despite playing away, which tells you how much weight it gives their perfect start and Liverpool’s injuries. It also expects goals, with both Over 2.5 and both teams to score priced at roughly two chances in three.

Our Liverpool vs Man City prediction
We lean Man City or draw at 1.49. City have won all five league games, including both away trips, and they have beaten Liverpool in the last three meetings. Liverpool have not won at Anfield yet this season, have drawn four league games in a row there, and their injury list hits the front line harder than City’s. Our scoreline guess is 1-1.
The risk to the pick is real. If Haaland misses out, City lose five of their 13 goals. Liverpool apply high-intensity pressure to 48.9% of opponents’ touches in their half, the highest rate in the league, and Anfield will be loud after the verdict. Double chance also pays less than a straight win (1.49 against 2.54), because you are paying for the draw cover. Anyone asking for a Man City vs Liverpool prediction with more upside should look at the draw.
Other markets worth a look
- Draw at 3.70: our value angle. The market gives it 27%, and Liverpool’s last four league games at Anfield all finished level.
- Under 3.5 goals at 1.55: four of the last five meetings had three goals or fewer.
- Both teams to score: the market makes Yes favourite at 1.45 (No 2.50), yet both teams scored in only one of the last five meetings. We would leave this market alone.
- Bet Builder idea: Man City or draw plus Under 3.5 goals. Tap the BB icon on the match and the slip prices the combination for you. See our Bet Builder guide for how it works.
