Betting terms are the short codes and words you see on a bet slip, such as 1X2, GG, DNB, Over 2.5 and cash out. This glossary explains every betting term and its meaning in plain English, grouped by type, with naira examples. Bookmark it and check any code before you stake on it.

All odds below are examples, not live prices. For a deeper look at the main football markets, read our guide to football betting markets explained.

ChampBet betting terms cheat sheet with 16 common terms and one-line meanings The 16 terms Nigerian bettors ask about most, on one page.

Match result terms: 1X2, 1X, X2, 12 and DNB

Most football markets settle on regular time: 90 minutes plus stoppage time, as set out in football’s Law 7 on the duration of the match. Extra time and penalties do not count unless the market says so.

What does 1X2 mean?

1X2 is the full-time result. 1 is a home win, X is a draw and 2 is an away win. On ChampBet the same columns are labelled W1, X and W2 in the pre-match sportsbook. A ₦1,000 stake on W1 at 2.10 returns ₦2,100 if the home side wins.

What does 1X mean in betting?

1X is a double chance bet: it wins if the home team wins or draws, and loses only if the away team wins. The two sister bets work the same way. X2 covers a draw or an away win. 12 covers either team winning, so only a draw loses. Covering two results means lower odds.

What does DNB mean in betting?

DNB means Draw No Bet. You back one team to win, and if the match is drawn your stake comes back. If your team loses, you lose the stake. Example: ₦1,000 on the home side at 1.55 DNB returns ₦1,550 on a home win, ₦1,000 on a draw and nothing on an away win.

Goal terms: GG, NG, Over/Under and HT/FT

What does GG mean in betting?

GG (goal goal) means both teams score at least once. NG (no goal) means at least one team fails to score. The winner does not matter: 1-1 and 3-2 are both GG, while 2-0 and 0-0 are NG. GG/NG is the Nigerian name for Both Teams To Score, Yes or No.

Over/Under (Totals)

Over/Under, shown as Totals on ChampBet, is a bet on the total number of goals. Over 2.5 wins with three or more goals; Under 2.5 wins with two or fewer. Half lines can never tie. On a whole line such as 4, exactly four goals means your stake is returned.

HT/FT

HT/FT (half-time/full-time) asks you to call the result at the break and at the final whistle in one bet. “X/1” means level at half-time, then a home win. There are nine combinations, and both halves of the pick must be right.

Handicap terms: European and Asian

A handicap gives one team a goal head start or deficit, then settles the bet on the adjusted score. A favourite at -1 has a goal taken away; an underdog at +1 has one added.

European handicap

European handicap is three-way, like 1X2, with whole numbers. With the home side at -1, a two-goal win lands “Home -1”, a one-goal win lands the “handicap draw”, and a draw or away win lands “Away +1”. Every pick wins or loses; there are no refunds.

Asian handicap

Asian handicap has two options, no draw. On whole lines (0, -1, +1) a level adjusted score returns your stake. Half lines (-0.5, +1.5) always produce a winner. Quarter lines split your stake across two lines: ₦1,000 on Home -0.25 at 2.00 puts ₦500 on 0 and ₦500 on -0.5. A draw returns ₦500; a home win returns ₦2,000.

Bet slip terms

Stake

Your stake is the amount you bet. On the ChampBet slip you can type it or tap the quick buttons for ₦5,000, ₦10,000 or ₦50,000.

Odds

Odds are the price of a selection, shown as decimals in Nigeria. Multiply stake by odds to get your return. Our guide to how betting odds work covers the maths and what odds say about probability.

Possible win and final payout

Possible win is stake multiplied by odds, including your stake. On a multiple, ChampBet also shows an ACCUMULATOR BONUS line and a FINAL PAYOUT. Example from the live slip: three selections at 2.00, 1.25 and 1.28 make odds of 3.20, so ₦1,000 gives a possible win of ₦3,200, an accumulator bonus of ₦66 and a final payout of ₦3,266.

Single

A single is one selection on one bet slip. It wins or loses on its own, so it is the simplest bet to track.

Multiple and acca

A multiple combines two or more selections from different matches. Every leg must win, and the odds multiply. “Acca” (accumulator) is the everyday name for a multiple with several legs. See accumulator bets explained for the full maths.

System bet

A system bet is a set of smaller accas built from your picks. A “3 from 4” system makes four trebles, so a ₦4,000 stake puts ₦1,000 on each. You get a return if at least three of the four picks win, though less than a full acca would pay.

Banker

A banker is the pick a bettor trusts most, often a short-priced favourite added to every slip. On some system bets, “banker” also means a selection fixed into every combination. The word describes confidence, not certainty. A pick priced at 1.20 is expected to lose about one time in six, which is why we explain why no tip is ever certain.

Settlement terms: void and push

Void

A void bet is cancelled and the stake returned. Under ChampBet’s sports rules, bets on a football match that is postponed or abandoned and not replayed within 24 hours are void, unless the market was already decided. In a multiple, a void leg is removed and the rest settles as if that leg had odds of 1.00, so your possible win shrinks.

Push

A push is a tie with the line: the result lands exactly on it, so the stake is returned. Examples are Asian handicap -1 when your team wins by one goal, or Over 4 goals when exactly four go in. In a multiple, a pushed leg is treated like a void leg.

Feature terms: cash out, booking code, bet builder, odds boost

Cash out

Cash out lets you settle a bet before it finishes for the amount on offer, which can be more or less than your stake. ChampBet offers full and partial cash out on selected markets, pre-match and live, on singles and multiples. Free bets cannot be cashed out. See our cash out guide.

Booking code

A booking code is a short code that saves a whole bet slip so someone else can load it. On ChampBet, tap SHARE BET to get a 7-digit code, then share it to WhatsApp, Telegram or X. To load one, type it into Search betting code above the slip. Our booking code guide shows each screen.

Bet builder

A bet builder combines several markets from the same match into one bet, such as home win, Over 1.5 and GG. Look for the BB icon on an event; the slip then offers “Add one more BB event”. Read more in the bet builder guide.

Odds boost

An odds boost is a price raised above its normal level for a set selection. ChampBet lists them under Boosted Odds in the sportsbook menu.

Bonus terms: free bet, wagering and rollover

Free bet

A free bet is a bet token you did not pay for. If it wins, you keep the winnings but not the free bet stake. ₦1,000 at 3.00 returns ₦2,000, not ₦3,000.

Wagering

Wagering is how much you must bet before bonus money becomes cash you can withdraw. The Champion’s Kickoff sports bonus has a 5x wagering requirement, so a ₦10,000 bonus needs ₦50,000 of qualifying bets. Full terms apply on the Champion’s Kickoff page.

Rollover

Rollover is another word for wagering, sometimes called turnover. “5x rollover” and “5x wagering” mean the same thing.

Frequently asked questions

What does GG mean in betting?

GG means goal goal: both teams score at least one goal in the match. NG means no goal: at least one team fails to score. The final result does not matter, so a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 win are both GG. It is the same market as Both Teams To Score, Yes or No.

What does 1X mean in betting?

1X is a double chance bet that wins if the home team wins or the match ends in a draw. It only loses if the away team wins. Because it covers two of the three results, the odds are lower than a straight home win. X2 covers draw or away win, and 12 covers either team winning.

What does DNB mean in betting?

DNB stands for Draw No Bet. You back the home or away team to win, and if the match ends in a draw your stake is returned. If your team loses, the stake is lost. It pays less than a straight win bet but more than double chance, because only the draw is covered.

What is a banker in betting?

A banker is the selection a bettor feels most confident about, often a strong favourite placed in every slip. On some system bets it also means a pick fixed into every combination. The word does not mean the result is certain. Favourites lose regularly, so treat any banker as a normal risk.

What does void mean in betting?

A void bet is cancelled and your stake is returned, as if the bet was never placed. Common causes are a match that is abandoned or not played within the time set in the rules. In a multiple, a void selection is removed and the rest of the slip is settled without it.
