Premier League Betting Tips: 2026/27 Guide for Nigeria
Premier League betting tips for 2026/27: how the season works, the promoted clubs, key markets and outrights, Boxing Day, and kick-off times in WAT.
In this guide
The best Premier League betting tips start with knowing the season you are betting on. The 2026/27 Premier League runs from 21 August 2026 to 30 May 2027, with 20 clubs playing 38 matches each. Below you will find how the league works, the promoted clubs, the markets worth knowing, how outrights and Boxing Day affect your bets, and what time every kick-off slot is in Nigeria.
Facts about the season come from the Premier League’s 2026/27 fixture announcement. Any odds here are examples, not live prices.
How does the 2026/27 Premier League work?
Twenty clubs play each other home and away: 38 matches each, 380 in total. A win earns three points and a draw one. The club with the most points is champion. The bottom three are relegated to the Championship and replaced by three promoted clubs. The top four always qualify for the Champions League.
The season started a week later than usual to give players a break after the expanded 48-team World Cup. It opened on Friday 21 August 2026 with champions Arsenal hosting newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates. The league is spread over 33 weekends and five midweek rounds, and the final day is Sunday 30 May 2027, with every match kicking off at 16:00.
Who was promoted for 2026/27?
- Coventry City, Championship winners and back in the top flight for the first time in a quarter of a century.
- Ipswich Town, who finished second.
- Hull City, who beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley.
Promoted sides often need time to adjust to the pace of the league. Judge them on what you see this season, not on how they dominated the Championship.
Who is in Europe this season?
Nine Premier League clubs are playing in UEFA competitions. Five are in the Champions League league phase: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. That matters for your weekend bets, because European nights eat into rest and squad depth. Our Champions League betting guide covers that side of the schedule.
What are the most popular Premier League betting markets?
The most popular Premier League markets are the match result (1X2), double chance, Draw No Bet, Over/Under 2.5 goals, both teams to score (GG/NG), handicaps, correct score and goalscorers. On ChampBet you can also combine markets from one match with Bet Builder, marked by the BB icon on each event.
| Market | What you are backing | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 1X2 | Home win, draw or away win | Clear favourites at a fair price |
| Double chance | Two of the three results | Sides you expect not to lose |
| Draw No Bet | A win, with stake back on a draw | Close games with a slight favourite |
| Over/Under 2.5 | Three or more goals, or two or fewer | Matches where you have a view on tempo |
| GG/NG | Both teams score, or not | Open sides with leaky defences |
| Handicap | A team to win by a margin | Big mismatches with short 1X2 odds |
| Goalscorer | A player to score | In-form strikers with confirmed starts |
If any of these are new to you, our football betting markets guide explains each with examples. For goals markets, see our over 2.5 goals tips and GG tips.

How do Premier League outright bets work?
Outright bets are season-long markets: the title winner, a top-four finish, relegation and the top goalscorer. Your stake is tied up until the market settles, often in May. Prices change every week, so an early bet can look clever or foolish by Christmas. Outrights are listed as their own entry under the competition, where offered.
A few points before you bet:
- Title winner: squad depth matters as much as the starting eleven, especially for clubs also playing in Europe.
- Top four: a top-four finish always earns a Champions League place. In some seasons a fifth place also qualifies through UEFA’s European Performance Spots, so read exactly what your market pays on.
- Relegation: promoted clubs are usually priced short to go down. The value, if any, often lies in an established club that starts badly.
- Top goalscorer: ChampBet’s sports betting rules apply dead-heat rules, so if players tie, your stake is split.
Keep outright stakes small. They are fun to follow, but one injury in October can end your bet.
Boxing Day and the festive pile-up
The Premier League plays through Christmas and New Year, when matches come thick and fast. For 2026/27 the league has promised a fuller Boxing Day programme, while promising each club at least 60 hours between festive fixtures. Expect rotation, tired legs and line-ups that only make sense on the day.
Practical tips for the festive period:
- Wait for team sheets. Rotation is common, so bet after line-ups are confirmed.
- Check squad depth. Clubs with strong benches cope better with three games in a week.
- Watch the kick-off times. December and January slots are confirmed when broadcast picks are announced, so a 15:00 game can move.
- Mind the weather. Cold, wet English winters can slow the ball and the scoring.
Premier League kick-off times in WAT
Nigeria stays on West Africa Time (WAT) all year, but the UK changes its clocks. According to GOV.UK, UK clocks go back on 25 October 2026 and forward on 28 March 2027. Between those dates Nigeria is one hour ahead of the UK. Outside them, UK time and WAT are the same.
| UK kick-off slot | WAT (21 Aug to 24 Oct, 28 Mar to 30 May) | WAT (25 Oct to 27 Mar) |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday 12:30 | 12:30 | 13:30 |
| Saturday 15:00 | 15:00 | 16:00 |
| Saturday 17:30 | 17:30 | 18:30 |
| Sunday 14:00 | 14:00 | 15:00 |
| Sunday 16:30 | 16:30 | 17:30 |
| Friday or Monday 20:00 | 20:00 | 21:00 |
The final day on 30 May 2027 falls in British Summer Time, so its 16:00 kick-offs are also 16:00 WAT. That timing matters for live betting and for knowing when your bets settle.
Premier League betting tips for 2026/27
Give early-season form time
After six or seven rounds, a table can flatter or punish teams through a soft or tough run of fixtures. Look at who they have played, home and away, before you trust a hot start.
Watch the European hangover
Clubs playing in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League lose rest and training time. The league moves some of their games to give them time, as it did when Brighton’s opener was set for a Sunday after a Thursday European tie, but a long trip still takes its toll. Check who played midweek, and who was rested.
Use international breaks for research
When the Super Eagles and other national teams play, club squads scatter around the world. Use the break to update your notes, then check who returned injured or tired from long flights before the first round back. The league’s injury news page is updated club by club.
Price the draw
Draws are the result fans forget. If two evenly matched sides meet, a draw is a real outcome, not a nuisance. Consider Draw No Bet or double chance when you like a team but the game looks tight.
Put goals in context
The 2025/26 Premier League averaged about 2.75 goals per match. That makes Over 2.5 a genuine contest in many games, not an automatic pick. Look at each team’s home and away scoring rather than the league average alone.
Keep weekend accas tight
A Saturday coupon full of favourites is tempting. Keep it to a few researched legs, and remember that ChampBet’s One Leg Down gives a free bet when exactly one leg of a qualifying acca of four or more legs at 1.40+ lets you down. Full terms apply. Our football betting tips cover staking and accas in more detail.

Frequently asked questions
When does the 2026/27 Premier League season end?
The final round is on Sunday 30 May 2027, with every match kicking off at 16:00 UK time. That is also 16:00 in Nigeria, because the UK will be on British Summer Time. The season began on Friday 21 August 2026 with Arsenal against Coventry City.
Which teams were promoted to the Premier League for 2026/27?
Coventry City, who won the Championship, Ipswich Town, who finished second, and Hull City, who beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley. They replaced the three clubs relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2025/26.
What time do Premier League matches kick off in Nigeria?
It depends on the UK clocks. From 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027 Nigeria is one hour ahead, so a 15:00 UK kick-off is 16:00 WAT. Outside that window the times match, so 15:00 in the UK is 15:00 in Lagos.
What is the best Premier League bet for beginners?
Singles on markets you understand, such as 1X2, double chance or Over/Under 2.5 goals, on teams you watch every week. Check confirmed line-ups first and keep stakes small and fixed. Outright bets tie your money up for months, so keep those stakes smaller still.
