Casino tournaments are timed competitions where players on a set list of games earn points for qualifying bets and climb a live leaderboard. When the clock runs out, a prize pool is shared among the top places. Most casino tournaments run on slots and are funded by the game makers. This guide explains how scoring works, how prize pools are split, how to join, and how to read the tournaments page on ChampBet.

How do casino tournaments work?

A casino tournament is a competition with a start time, an end time and a list of eligible games. Every qualifying bet you place on those games earns points under the tournament’s scoring rule. A live leaderboard ranks everyone taking part, and when the tournament ends, the prize pool is paid out to the top places according to the prize table.

Most tournaments follow the same life cycle:

  1. Upcoming. The tournament is announced with its dates, games and prizes.
  2. Registration. You join, either by pressing a join button or automatically with your first qualifying bet.
  3. Live. You play eligible games, points add up and the leaderboard updates.
  4. Finished. Final places are fixed and prizes are paid as the rules describe.

How are points scored?

Points depend entirely on the tournament’s win criterion, which the rules state. The most common systems score each spin by its win multiplier (win divided by stake), by the size of each win against the tournament’s minimum bet, or by the amount you stake. Bets below the minimum stake usually score nothing.

Scoring rule How points are counted What it means for you
Single win ÷ single bet Each spin scores its win multiplier. A ₦5,000 win on a ₦100 spin scores 50 Stake size does not matter. One big multiplier can top the board
Single win ÷ tournament minimum bet Each win is measured against the tournament’s minimum bet Bigger stakes produce bigger wins, so they score more
Sum of win multipliers Multipliers from your spins are added up across the tournament Rewards both big hits and steady play
Points per amount staked Points build with your total stakes Favours volume, which costs the most

All figures in the table are examples. The sum-of-multipliers model is the one Pragmatic Play describes for the daily tournaments in its Drops & Wins promotion. The first two are the criteria shown on the ChampBet tournaments page when we checked.

Why the scoring rule matters

The rule decides who the tournament suits. Under “single win ÷ single bet”, a ₦100 spinner who hits a 500x multiplier beats a ₦5,000 spinner who hits 100x. Under “single win ÷ tournament minimum bet”, the bigger stake usually wins. Read the criterion before you play, so you understand the race you are in.

How are prize pools shared?

The prize pool is set before the tournament starts and shown on its card. The prize table splits it across the top places, with first place taking the largest share and smaller prizes going further down the leaderboard. How many places are paid, and how ties are settled, are in each tournament’s rules.

Provider tournaments are typically run and funded by the game maker as a promotion. Pragmatic Play, for example, describes Drops & Wins as a provider-funded prize pool. Prizes can be cash, free spins or other rewards. In the tournaments we checked on ChampBet, the rules said cash prizes carry no wagering requirements and go to the winner’s real-money account.

The ChampBet tournaments page

The ChampBet tournaments page lists every provider tournament with its prize pool, countdown and rules. On a phone, it is the Tournaments tab at the top of the casino lobby.

How to join a tournament on ChampBet

  1. Open the tournaments page. Go to ChampBet casino tournaments, or tap Tournaments in the mobile casino lobby. Sign in first.
  2. Filter the list. Tap Live or Registration Started, and switch on “Show only free” if you only want tournaments with no buy-in.
  3. Read the rules. Tap Read more and check the dates, win criterion, minimum bet and prize table.
  4. Join. Press JOIN NOW, or place a real-money bet on an eligible game where the rules say you join automatically.
  5. Play eligible games at or above the minimum bet. Smaller bets do not score.
  6. Follow the leaderboard. Your points update as you play. Prizes are paid after the end as the rules describe.

A checklist for reading tournament rules

Before you play, find the answer to each of these on the tournament card:

  • Dates and times: when it starts and ends, and when registration closes.
  • Eligible games: only these count.
  • Minimum bet: the smallest stake that scores.
  • Win criterion: how points are worked out.
  • Prize table: how many places are paid and how much each gets.
  • Buy-in or fee: whether joining costs anything.
  • Money type: whether only real-money bets count. In the examples above, they did.
  • Prize type: cash or free spins, and whether any wagering applies.

Play the tournament, not the leaderboard

With tens of thousands of players in a single tournament, the top places are hard to reach. Treat a tournament as an extra layer on play you would do anyway, not a reason to raise stakes or play longer. Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and stop when either runs out. Our bankroll guide and responsible gambling guide cover both, and ChampBet’s responsible gaming page sets out the house rules. For free, confidential support, BeGambleAware has advice and tools.

Most tournament games are slots, so it helps to know how slots work and how a game’s RTP and volatility shape your results. For prizes that land at random rather than by ranking, see our guide to casino jackpots.

Find a tournament

Every live and upcoming provider tournament, with its prize pool and countdown, is on the ChampBet tournaments page. Read the rules, pick an eligible game from the ChampBet casino, and play within your budget.

Frequently asked questions

How do casino tournaments work?

A casino tournament is a timed competition on a set list of games. Every qualifying real-money bet earns points under the tournament's scoring rule, a live leaderboard ranks the players, and when the timer ends the prize pool is shared among the top places as the prize table shows.

How are points scored in slot tournaments?

It depends on the rules. Common systems score each spin by its win multiplier (win divided by stake), by the size of a win compared with the tournament's minimum bet, or by the total amount staked. The rules on the tournament page say which one applies and the minimum bet that counts.

Do I need to pay to join a ChampBet tournament?

The provider tournaments we checked on ChampBet showed a buy-in and fee of ₦0, and players joined automatically with their first real-money bet on an eligible game. Each tournament sets its own rules, so check the registration dates, minimum bet and any buy-in on its card first.

Are casino tournament prizes paid as cash?

In the provider tournaments we checked on ChampBet, the rules said cash prizes carry no wagering requirements and are paid to the winner's real-money account. Prize types can differ between tournaments, so read the prize table and rules on each tournament card before you play.

Can a small stake win a casino tournament?

It can when scoring is based on the win multiplier, because a big multiplier on a small stake scores the same as on a big one. When scoring is based on win size or turnover, bigger stakes score more. Either way, set your budget first and never raise stakes to chase a leaderboard place.
